Building Momentum: Interior Demolition and Foundation Pouring Underway
Inside City Hall: Interior demolition has started! Crews are removing ceilings, walls, flooring, and mechanical systems in unoccupied areas to connect the existing building to the new City Hall addition. Staff workspaces and services remain fully operational during construction.
On the Grounds: Foundation work continues across the site. Concrete crews are pouring walls and footings in preparation for structural steel delivery in late August and precast installation in early September. Crews have also completed the elevator shaft and started building storm shelter walls. Dakota Electric is preparing to relocate power service next week.
Outside the Building: Brick removal on the southeast wall of City Hall is complete. This exterior wall will remain in place until winter to protect against water intrusion. The existing trash enclosure will be removed soon and fenced off.
What’s Ahead: Expect to see more truck traffic on Nicollet Avenue and Civic Center Parkway in September as steel and precast panels arrive. We’ll also be coordinating with the Fire Muster team to ensure access and safety during the upcoming community event.
