[ARCHIVED] Storm Update

Public Works and Public Safety crews are hard at work cleaning up the aftermath left behind by damaging winds.

Safety Hazards

  • If you encounter major safety hazards such as downed power lines please call 9-1-1 right away
  • If possible, avoid areas that look hazardous

Power Outages

  • Most of the City seems to have power, but if you experience any power outages please contact your power company directly
  • Public Works crews are working on making sure that all traffic signals have power

Damaged Trees

  • The City's compost site (located off of 121st Street behind Dodge of Burnsville) will open for individual/private residential tree and branch drop off. A schedule of hours will be released and posted here as soon as possible
    • Only trees and plants will be accepted -- contractor drop-offs will not be allowed
  • Some areas of the city received significant amounts of damage. In those areas with significant damage, City crews will offer curbside pick up of trees/branches. Crews have currently identified the following areas for curbside pick up:
    • South River Hills in the area of William Byrne School
    • 150th Street/Judicial Road area
    • Greenhaven area
    • Lac Lavon/Southcross area
  • Curbside pick-up for those identified areas is expected to begin Monday, Sept. 20. Additional details will be posted here as they become available
  • Please note, City crews cannot remove trees if a power line is in the tree. If you notice a power line is tangled in a tree please call 9-1-1 so they can dispatch a power crew to the scene before a tree crew arrives

Planned City Crew Schedule

  • Friday, Sept. 17 -- Remove trees from streets, ensure all roadways are passable, begin removing trees from boulevards
  • Saturday, Sept. 18 -- Continue removing trees from boulevards in the hardest-hit areas of the city
  • Sunday, Sept. 19 -- Anticipated release of additional information regarding curbside pick up in the identified hardest-hit areas
  • Week of Sept. 20 -- Curbside pick up in identified areas of the city
