Posted on: July 19, 2019[ARCHIVED] What to Know about Solicitations

Storm season often brings an increase in companies/individuals soliciting business for home/roof repairs. Here are a few things you should know about solicitations in Burnsville...
It is unlawful for any peddler or solicitor to engage in door-to-door solicitations without first registering with the City. As part of the registration process, criminal background checks are conducted on each person engaged in peddling/soliciting. Peddlers/solicitors must wear and display a City-issued ID. Do not hesitate to ask to see a City ID if you do not see one displayed.
- City-issued IDs are given to each person who is registered to solicit -- one ID does not cover all employees in a company.
- If you are concerned with the conduct of a peddler/solicitor or they do not show you their City-issued ID, please call 9-1-1 immediately so an officer can check it out.
- If you do not want solicitations you can display a "no soliciting" placard on your door. Download a "no soliciting" placard at https://burnsvillemn.gov/faq.aspx?TID=48
- The City does not regulate companies who solicit by telephone, but we encourage residents to be vigilant and check with the Better Business Bureau before hiring unknown businesses.
- The City does not provide solicitors with a list of phone numbers or personal information.
