Yes, through the "Open to Business" program entrepreneurs can ask about strategic planning, business loans, marketing or other business-related questions. This program provides a consultant, at no cost, that meets one-on-one with residents to assist in local business growth. The City of Burnsville does not license businesses. The State requires licenses for certain types of businesses, such as food prep and sale, medical, chiropractic, etc.
Incentives may be available if there is an above typical development cost to construct a building. There are not City incentives available if the business is leasing space. The Economic Development Commission (EDC) is an advisory body to the City Council and the Economic Development Authority charged with the responsibility of researching, reviewing, and making recommendations on issues related to economic development.
Economic Development Commission meetings are held on the second Wednesday of January, March, May, July, September and November at 6:30 p.m. in the Burnsville City Council Chambers.
