Firefighter/Paramedic Shawn Hill has been named Burnsville’s 2019 Firefighter of the Year.
Hill has been a member of the Burnsville Fire Department for 16 years, and his fellow firefighters know him as someone who can be counted on to have the best interests of the community and department at heart. Hill continuously takes on projects that make the Burnsville Fire Department the best it can be.
“Throughout his career, Shawn has defined what dedication, honor and integrity is all about,” said a firefighter/paramedic who nominated Hill for the award. “Shawn can often be found inspecting our SCBA [air pack] gear to insure we have properly working equipment. His dedication is critical to the safety of everyone in our department.”
Hill has been a leader on several department projects. Recent highlights include researching and purchasing new respiratory protection equipment to keep our firefighters safe, creating new training standards, researching the purchase of a new fire engine and performing the duties of a Fire Motor Operator (Fire Engine Driver).
All of these projects are incredibly important, but perhaps it is Hill’s one-on-one work with the other members of the department that has the biggest impact. Hill’s peers describe him as a great role model and mentor for younger firefighters due to his vast knowledge and hardworking nature.
“Shawn is a great trainer for our new firefighters,” said one of his colleagues. “He is always willing to guide new members of our department and show them faster, safer and more efficient ways to complete almost any task.”
For these reasons, the Burnsville Fire Department is proud to announce Burnsville Firefighter Shawn Hill as Burnsville’s 2019 Firefighter of the Year.
