The Burnsville Police Department delivers a full range of police services to effectively protect lives and property of Burnsville's residents, business owners and visitors. The department uses community-oriented policing to partner with the community to provide public safety.

The Burnsville Police Department has 75 sworn officers and 19 civilian employees. Police units include:

Station Information

Burnsville Police are headquartered at a centrally-located station, connected to Burnsville City Hall. The station was completely updated and renovated in 2018.

Department History

Formed in 1964, the Burnsville Police Department was founded on a vision of progressive law enforcement principles. Through a strict selection criteria emphasizing officers who believed in pursuing professional growth through education - initial staffing consisted of:

  • The Police Chief
  • A lieutenant
  • A sergeant
  • Seven officers
  • A department secretary
