2017 Officer of the Year
Erin L. Holznagel
Officer Erin Holznagel has been a member of the Burnsville Police Department for more than 10 years. She started her career like many other officers, seeking experience and very eager to learn. Since her time as a young recruit, she has grown with a tenacity and drive to perform at a high level. Today, she is one of Burnsville's most respected patrol officers on the road. Whenever a call is at its most intense, she is at her best. These factors all contributed to Officer Erin Holznagel being named Burnsville's 2017 Officer of the Year.
During her years of service, Officer Holznagel has demonstrated excellence through her assignments as a Physical Evidence Officer, Patrol Officer, Recruitment Team Officer and a member of the Domestic Abuse Resistance Team (DART). She is highly respected among her peers, and her strong work ethic, positive attitude and leadership skills are displayed daily.
Highlights from 2017
- January 2017: Received the Burnsville Police Department's Distinguished Service Award for a call related to a large apartment fire, including saving a mother and her small children.
- March 2017: Again received the Distinguished Service Award, this time for a call related to a suicidal male. The male eventually dropped his weapon and was taken into protective custody.
- May 2017: Received the 2017 Dakota County Emergency Medical Responders Award. She performed lifesaving techniques to care for a victim who had lost 70 percent of his blood due to a stab wound. The victim survived.
- Throughout 2017: Demonstrated care and compassion in her role on Burnsville's Crisis Intervention Team (CIT). In one instance, she used her skills to console a 5-year-old after her parents were arrested.
In 2017, Officer Holznagel also sat on a Dakota County Judges Community Listening Session panel related to domestic violence – and used her noteworthy ability to track and locate suspects on multiple occasions.
Officer Holznagel is the type of officer all police recruits should strive to be. She carries herself in the most professional manner at all time; she treats everyone she meets with respect and compassion; and she is the type of officer that makes it easier for the Burnsville Police Department to do its job.
Officer Holznagel's devotion to law enforcement serves the department well by adhering to the high standards and core values of Honor, Integrity, Courage, Excellence and Knowledge.
For these reasons the Burnsville Police Department is proud to announce Burnsville Police Officer Erin Holznagel as Burnsville's 2017 Police Officer of the Year.
